Mariam explained: “We have been very concerned at the plight of care workers in the Covid-19 pandemic - in residential care home settings, or visiting service users in their homes.

"We have come up with a challenge to try to raise £2,000 for the Care Workers’ Charity – by cross training in alternate one hour stints over two days, starting on VE Day, May 8.

“It seemed a good way to raise money (at home!) for such an important cause, at a time when we need to really show how much we value the work of those in the caring profession and to ensure they are protected in their daily work.”

Marian, who works for the probation service, and engineer husband Neil have both been working from home, with their children Sophie and Jack.

She added: “We have invited those donating to nominate songs they want us to listen to during the challenge and our children Sophie and Jack are collating the playlist.

“So far we have a lot of disco, Queen, the odd K-pop, The Proclaimers, some French songs & a song by The Smurfs on there! Jack, our son, 11, took the photos. Our current total is now £1,185.”

The family have also put posters in their windows and hope that people will wave their support on the day if they are passing their home.
