Banbury woman runs five laps around the Grimsbury Reservoir raising money for Alzheimer's UK

A Banbury woman ran more than five laps around the Grimsbury Reservoir raising nearly £300 for charity in just 24 hours.

Michele Mannion was scheduled to run the Brighton 10k as she raised money for Alzheimer's Research UK.

When the coronavirus pandemic led to the cancellation of all such events she decided to hit the streets of Banbury in an effort to still reach the 10k mark.

She raised £272 for Alzheimer's Research UK in just 24 hours, and more than 300 over the weekend. She has now raised more than £2,000 for Alzheimer's Research UK over the last two years.

They have also had to postpone our a charity quiz night scheduled in town for April 28 to benefit Alzheimer's Research UK.

Michele said: "Charities are really taking a financial battering at the moment. Support this brilliant charity that have helped us cope with dad's illness so magnificently."

She orgainised the fundraising race challenge and the quiz night to help towards research as her father Tom has dementia.

Tom used to live in Banbury, but is now in a nursing home in Birmingham after being diagnosed with dementia.

She said: "Alzheimer's Research UK have helped us to adjust to dads illness.

"I ran from my house and five laps around the reservoir and the last lap along the Daventry Road in Grimsbury. My.friend Jane Reed joined me and ran the opposite way round. Her first 10k run."
