Banbury woman imprisoned for thefts of alcohol and assaults against men in Oxford city - this week's court report

A Banbury woman has been sent to prison for a number of thefts of alcohol, being drunk and disorderly and assault of men.

Kerry Ellen Rose Lofthouse, 28, of Granville Road, Banbury was sentenced to six weeks in prison for assaulting a man in Magdalen Street, Oxford on March 25. She was ordered to pay compensation of £100. Magistrates imposed the custodial sentence because of Lofthouse’s previous record for dishonesty offences.

She was given six weeks prison sentences, to run concurrently, for theft of alcohol to the value of £21 from Tesco, Magdalen Street, Oxford on March 25, theft of alcohol valued at £5.50 from The Westgate, Queen Street, Oxford on April 6, theft of three bottles of vodka valued at £80 from The Westgate, Queen Street, Oxford on April 17 and theft of alcohol valued at £60 from the Co-op, Banbury Road, Oxford on April 16.

She changed her plea from not guilty to guilty for these offences. Lofthouse pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to custody for which she was sentenced to a week’s imprisonment to run concurrently. She pleaded guilty to assault of a man in the Co-op, Banbury Road, Oxford on April 16 and was sentenced to six weeks in prison, to run concurrently. Lofthouse pleaded guilty to assault of a man in Cromwell Road, Oxford on September 10. She was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment, to run concurrently and was ordered to pay £100 compensation.

She pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Cromwell Road, Oxford on September 10 . There was no separate penalty for this offence. Lofthouse pleaded guilty to criminal damage of a Thames Valley Police van. There was no separate penalty.

In other cases heard at Oxford Magistrates' Court:

Jodie-Ellen Kerr, 34, of Arbury Banks, Chipping Warden pleaded guilty to drink driving in a Toyota car in Burchester Place, Banbury on February 29. She had 97 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. Kerr was fined £120 and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Kerr was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for two years.

Calvin Holmes, 36, of Sage Close, Banbury was fined £220 for breaking the 30mph speed limit on Cowley Road, Oxford on March 8. His recorded speed was 35mph. Holmes was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and court costs of £90. His driving licence was endorsed with three penalty points.

Alfie Ross Jarvis, 18, of Edmunds Road, Banbury pleaded guilty to taking a Vauxhall Astra without consent on November 9, 2019. He was ordered to undertake 40 hours of unpaid work. Jarvis also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence or insurance on Woodgreen Avenue, Banbury. There was no separate penalty for these offences.

Jarvis pleaded not guilty to drink driving on the same occasion but was convicted. He had 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. He was ordered to undertake 40 hours of unpaid work. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £90 and £500 court costs. He was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 18 months. Jarvis pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident in Woodgreen Avenue in which another vehicle was damaged. He was ordered to undertake 40 hours of unpaid work.

James John Halls of Pear Tree Close, Milton-under-Wychwood, Chipping Norton pleaded guilty to criminal damage of an unknown value, to an entry sign to the Horton General Hospital’s Accident and Emergency department on September 11. He was ordered to pay compensation of £300. Halls also pleaded guilty to possession of a bag of cannabis. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and £85 costs. An order was made for the destruction of the drugs.

Douglas James McClure, 37, of Withycombe Drive, Banbury pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking after taking a Mercedes Benz car and colliding with a hedge and brickwork in Ribston Close, Banbury. McClure was ordered to undertake 150 hours of unpaid work. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £90 and court costs of £85. He was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 14 months.
