David Moore set a goal to cycle 300 miles during the month of September to raise money for the charity Cancer Research UK. He also set a fundraising target of £300 at £1 for each mile cycled.

A few days ago David reached his both his cycling target and his fundraising target. But he has no plans to stop there.

David said: "I am committed to a further 135 miles ride to Dorset this coming weekend, and it would be really cool to raise another £135."

Even though David has reached fundraising goal of £300 he is hoping to raise as much money as possible before he finishes cycling at the month.

The 300-mile cycle challenge this year also helps mark the 50th anniversary of when David decided as a student at Banbury Technical College to undertake another cycle ride for charity. Together with two fellow students he raised money through sponsorship by cycling from Banbury to Portsmouth and back, about 110 miles each way.

David said: "It’s extraordinary where the mind strays whilst out cycling. It suddenly occurred to me that this year is exactly 50 years since I undertook my one and only other long distance cycle challenge, both with a focus on fundraising for charity.

"For most of the intervening 50 years since the 1970 escapade I have not even owned a bicycle. By bizarre coincidence earlier this week I discovered the original newspaper article from the Banbury Guardian (which I have not seen for the last 50 years)."
