Banbury man finishes 50-mile cycle challenge on 1940s bicycle in suit and superhero cape for charity

How does 50 miles on a bike sound? Tough? How about 50 miles on a bicycle of the late 1940’s, in a suit and superhero cape?

Long-time Banbury resident, Alastair Milne Home, did just that as part of a cycling fundraising challenge to support the local charity, Let's Play Project Banbury.

Alastair was due to ride the Annual Broughton Castle Sportive just like last year, unfortunately the event had to be cancelled; however this didn’t stop the incredible Alastair.

Riding exactly the same route, Alastair set off at 11am on Sunday July 12 to complete the 50-mile solo route, which he did on a 3 gear 1940’s bike (which he pulled from a skip in the 1970’s).

He said: "I am riding 50 miles at Broughton Castle for Let's Play Project because they are a charity close to my heart.

Last year 20 miles seemed like a ride in the park so this year, it's 50 miles.”

Alastair was a Banbury Town and Cherwell District Councillor from May 2016 – May 2018

He set up a Just Giving web page for the fundraising challenge, and a £2,000 target.

A spokesperson for the Let's Play Project charity said: "This wonderful supporter of the project has currently raised an amazing £220 for the project this year on top of his Just Giving Page, taking his full rolling total to £830 – incredible."
