More than 30 people gathered with drums and saucepans, banners and flags, to raise awareness of the plight of the Amazon rain forest and the people who live there. This action was echoed on Sunday by protesters up and down the country, including a protest in Trafalgar Square in London.

Brazilian indigenous people are at the front line defending and protecting the Amazon jungle, very often risking and losing their lives. In their own words: “We are facing extermination.”

Members of XR Banbury carried banners calling on passers-by to Save the Amazon Forest and Boycott Tesco Beef, stating that Indigenous Lives Matter and Bols to Bolsenaro.

Hands were painted red and green to show that protesters stand with the people of the Amazon in seeking to put a stop to the loss of any more lives.

After the protest, the group moved on to People’s Park, where each person wrote his or her wish for the people of the Amazon on a paper leaf. The leaves were left tied to a tree in the park, for visitors to read. There is an online collection in aid of the Indigenous Peoples of Brazil.
