Taking place over the weekend of December 7 and 8, the challenge is for a team of three to navigate their way by map across 50 miles of rugged terrain in 24 hours or less.

For lower age groups there are two taster events consisting of 15 and 30 mile distances incorporated into the main hike.

Organisers, the Bodicote Rover Scouts, had no idea that the event would be so durable and still popular half a century later. Originally set up for scouting it now takes in all competitors from many organisations and friends from all over the UK. So far this year there over 150 competitors registered to take part.

Beginning at the Warriner School in Bloxham the route takes in Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, and each year the route changes.

It is a map reading team event with many trophies and certificates for completing the distances.

Trophies and certificates are being presented this year by the president of the British Mountaineering Council and Banbury mayor Cllr John Colgrave.
