Banbury care home residents spread their wings to celebrate the best of British birds
Highmarket House, on North Bar Place, will be celebrating the best of British birds by enjoying a visit from Fir Tree Falconry, as well as inviting children from Rainbows Day Nursery.
Residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the species in their garden. The events will coincide with the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place between Saturday, January 25 to Monday 27.
Jo Pohl, home manager at Highmarket House, said: "Residents love taking part in nature-themed activities and learning more about the beautiful environment we live in.
“Spending time outdoors and connecting with the nature around us can prove to be beneficial for both the physical and mental wellbeing of older people – particularly those living with dementia.
"While it is a calming, peaceful activity, the distinctive sounds and vibrant colours of the garden are also great for providing sensory stimulation.
“It’s brilliant to be getting involved with such a meaningful initiative and encouraging everyone to take notice of the beautiful wildlife Britain has to offer. We’re looking forward to welcoming Fir Tree Falconry and the children from Rainbows Day Nursery into the home to celebrate the best of British birds with us too.”
