Their objective was to bring fresh ideas from the three different disciplines, and share them freely. TED now hosts an annual conference in Vancouver and has spearheaded many initiatives, including TEDx events. The ‘X’ stands for independently voluntary organised local events under licence from TED.

TEDxBanbury, filmed live, will be the first of its kind taking place on February 29 at St Mary’s Church in Horsefair. The non profit sponsored, all day event features a programme of speakers, many local to Banbury, from different specialisms, and complemented with performing Arts.

Following the TED and TEDx format, the theme for this event is ‘It’s the little things...’, inspired by author and journalist Matthew Teller. Each talk within the speaker programme lasts up to 15 minutes, and shares new and innovative ideas that can change perceptions.

Confirmed speakers so far include: Dave Earle, owner of boxing gym Spit 'n' Sawdust, artist Liz Dixon and owner of Tooleys Boatyard, Matt Armitage.

The organising team are currently working with Banbury and Bicester College to introduce six students to this high profile aspirational event, as well as a student speaker who will be joining the line up.

There are plans ahead for TEDxBanbury to grow, and nurture a youth element. The event is gaining a following across the TEDxBanbury social media platforms, and with the

support of many key representatives in the Banbury community, including Visit Banbury, Creating Core Change, Pilkington Media Consultants, and No Fluff Communications.

TEDxBanbury has also created a range of corporate sponsorship packages, with headline sponsor opportunities, which would enable Banbury companies to promote their company alongside this global brand event.

Tickets are £45, which includes the booking fee, and available through the TEDxBanbury website and TicketSource. All proceeds contribute to the event production costs.
