PDC darts player helps raise money for charity

The Dog and Gun held a charity darts match and raffle to raise money for Cancer UK and the Air Ambulance service this past Sunday. PDC professional Andy ‘The Pie Man’ Smith was joined by compare John Fowler as pub regulars tried to beat the pro at his own game.

Organised by Jules King and Dave Head the event was donated raffle prizes from local businesses including Betts Butchers, Hawkes Sports, Bellini Italian Restaurant and Oceans Outdoor Furniture of Chipping Norton.

Also up for grabs via an auction was a signed Willian Chelsea shirt.

Ms King said: “I was at Stanford Bridge last week and a lady gave it to me. I really wanted to keep it but I thought I would donate it to raise money for the charities.”

MC for the night John Fowler was born in Banbury and was asked to attend by the Pie Man, he said: “Andy rang me about 10 days ago and told me about the event. I live locally in Upper Heyford so it was easy to come along.”

He added: “My role tonight will be to host the event, call the scores, introduce players and take the mickey.”

Andy ‘The Pie Man’ Smith had been in town for the day and had already been in other pubs playing the locals, he said: “The first lad who played me absolutely bashed me. I think he will be good but he needs local sponsorship.”

Regulars bought raffle tickets to play the Pie Man and first up was Chloe Lapper, who herself had donated £90 to the event, but was unable to beeat the pro as he started with a maximum 180 followed by 100 and 140.

The Pie Man went on to play over 20 regulars throughout the evening.

He said: “These things are great, You have a few drinks, play a few games and raise money for charity.”
