Staff at a Chipping Norton day care group have expressed their delight after receiving an ‘outstanding’ rating from a government watchdog.

Gems Daycare, based at Ace Children’s Centre on Burford Road, looks after 22 children between the age of three months and three years.

A visiting Ofsted inspector gave the day care service top marks for both the level of education and care children received as well as praising managers for “exceptionally strong drive for improvement with excellent opportunities for staff”.

It is the second outstanding rating Gems Daycare has received, and the seventh Ace Children’s Centre has received in the last ten years.

Lin Englishby, day care co-ordinator at Gems Daycare, said she was “absolutely “thrilled to pieces” by the flawless result, and that it reflected the hard work and graft of staff members.

“But as a day it couldn’t have been worse time to visit,” she added. “The garden was being dug up and there was mud everywhere!

“But when we told parents they said they weren’t surprised at all.”

Centre manager Helen Ruff, added: “We are absolutely delighted and the staff, children and parents are all really proud of the result.”
