The widespread disappointment that greeted The Order: 1886 (although I liked it as a gaming experience personally), shook confidence in what was billed as a stellar year for Sony’s console.
But the next exclusive title, Bloodborne is already living up to the hype and earning rave reviews from Canada, where some gamers got hold of it early.
From Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware – creators of the legendary action role-playing games Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls II – comes an all-new, action-packed RPG ‘brimming with unforgiving, unrelenting terror’.
Players face their fears in search of answers in the ancient city of Yharnam which is cursed with a strange endemic illness spreading through the streets like wildfire. Danger is all around you and players must discover its darkest secrets in order to survive.
Masaaki Yamagiwa, a producer for Sony Japan, which assisted From Software in the development process, told the media that the game was only possible due to the power of the PS4.
He said: “There are plenty of things that we were able to do with the PS4 that we haven’t been able to do before.
“One example is the weapons that transform in the middle of the game, they extend, they retract, they change in all these different ways and they do it in a very graceful way, lots of different actions and motions and we wouldn’t have been able to do that without the power of the PS4.”
He said the stunning environments in Bloodborne are “directly connected to each other,” which is another benefit of a powerful machine.
The ability to transform weapons and details of online multiplayer including co-op have only served to whet the appetite ahead of next Friday’s much-anticipated release.
