Banbury’s Old Town shops did a roaring trade on Saturday during the spring party.

Thousands of shoppers and visitors packed the streets of the old town, including Parson’s Street and the High Street, for the Banbury Town Council organised event.

The theme of the party was The Queen’s 90th birthday with traders dressing in a variety of royal costumes.

Mayor Tony Mepham said: “Parson’s Street and Church Lane really came alive. Older residents can remember the days when these streets bustled with shoppers every day of the week.

“Days like this are a pleasant reminder of days gone by and it’s great old town parties are now regular features of Banbury’s calendar.”

The aim of the event was to showcase the independent stores, pubs and restaurants in some of the streets that were the town’s main shopping area before the Castle Quay Centre and out-of-town retail parks.
