A theatre production team’s crowdfunding bid was launched earlier this week, in the hopes of sending their show Our Friends the Enemy across the pond.
They aim to raise£3,000 to journey to the United States this November, where they will share the play at the United Solo Festival in New York.
Our Friends the Enemy focuses on the emotional story of Private James Boyce as he fights on the Western Front in December 1914.
It was then, on one clear morning, thousands of British, Belgian and French soldiers put down their rifles, stepped out of the trenches and spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day mingling with their German enemies. Leading the crowdfunding campaign is the show’s producer David Adkin, who runs a successful production company in London but is also a trustee for Cherwell Theatre Company in his home town of Banbury.
He said: “It’s an important story that must not be forgotten and to coincide with the WWI Centenary, we want to share this British story with the world.
“The festival will bring us the opportunity to test our work in front of an international audience, and to build momentum for further opportunities for the play.”
The money raised will go towards the costs associated with launching the play in New York. To support the project, visit www.ideastap.com/crowdfunding/project/oftenyc
