Nursery helps young imaginations to fly

Youngsters at Winchcombe Farm Day Nursery in Upper Tysoe have been studying the life cycle of butterflies.

Children at the Shenington Road-based nursery have been watching how three caterpillars each formed themselves into a pupa, also known as a chrysalis, and then emerged as adult butterflies.

Nursery manager Rachel Giorgio said: “This was a fun activity aimed at helping the children understand life cycles.

“We successfully hatched three butterflies using a special kit from Insect Lore that made the whole process interactive and very visual for young children to follow.

“We’ve been looking at the caterpillars each day and talking about how they’ve changed and what is different about them as they develop.

“The children have been very excited about releasing them from their net today and we waved them goodbye.”
