North Oxfordshire Academy send first student to Oxbridge

Katie Piper becomes the academy’s first student to be awarded an Oxbridge place and will study Juris Prudence at Jesus College, Oxford.

A delighted Katie said: “When I logged into the UCAS website this morning, my whole family burst into tears. It is a mixture of relief, terror and excitement. I’m excited about bounding into the great unknown.”

Overall 59 percent of entries from the academy were awarded grades C or above and 34 percent achieved a grade B or higher, best of each that the school has ever achieved.

In total, 98 percent of grades awarded were A* to E.

Other notable individual successes being celebrated today include Julie Hodge, who was awarded an A and two Bs and will read Law at Leicester University and Chloe Stallwood, who secures a place at Bedford University to read Sports and Education.

Principle Sara Billins said: “These results are testament to the hard work and commitment of our students coupled with the ambition and encouragement of our staff. I’d like to congratulate all of them on this success which demonstrates a significant increase on previous years and which ensures that students will be able to take up places at their first choice universities.

“Students across the academy are excited and motivated by the success of our Sixth Form and today’s results will spur everyone on to achieve the very best they can. We are a close-knit community here and we celebrate in each other’s success. So, by going on to good universities with these grades, I know that the impact of today’s results will encourage younger students to work even harder.

“We are particularly pleased for Katie in achieving her place at Oxford. She has worked incredibly hard during her time here and it is a sign of how far the academy has moved forward that we are now able to offer our highest performing students the support they need in applying to the very best universities.”
