There was no Christmas Day dinner with all the trimmings for Kineton songstress Nina Baker – but it was all in a good cause.
For she had rounded off a remarkable 2014 with her first mini-tour of the United States, combining a string of dates on the East Coast – in New York City, Boston and Baltimore – with a chance to check out some of the sights.
It was something she arranged by picking up the phone at home and calling venues and, delighted to find such a thriving music scene, added various open mic nights and short shows to the tour.
She said: “I was going into the unknown but it was great to have the reaction I got and I’ve now got a lot more followers on social media. I’ve had e-mails asking me to play in Philadelphia and other places so I’m hoping to go again.”
Back in Britain – and having caught up with turkey and all the trimmings at the weekend – she is now raring to go for the year ahead, targeting dates here and in Germany, and writing new songs.
And as for that Christmas meal USA... chicken pasta and Home Alone on the television but with one disappointment: “It wasn’t snowing in New York on Christmas Day. All those movies have lied to me!”
