Night's sleep in the cold outdoors for students

Students at Sibford School spent a night out in the cold to raise funds for the Banbury Young Homelessness Project (BYHP).

Student Molly Jones, age 16, said: “I don’t think any of us thought that when we came to Sibford we would end up sleeping underneath the art block for a night!

“We tried to make the experience as authentic as possible, so there was no technology, no blow-up mattresses and all we had to eat was a cup of soup.

“Our ribs really ached the following morning but, for all our complaining, we knew that we would get a hot shower and a big breakfast. It was the little things we take for granted that we really began to appreciate. To experience a single night of homelessness out in the cold is something which we will remember forever.”

To date with money still coming in the students have raised more than £600 for BYHP.

Tutor Darren De Bruyn said: “I would like to thank all the people who sponsored us. Apart from an empathetic experience, this exercise has also demonstrated to me that, as we draw closer to the festive season, there are many people who are very aware of the less fortunate, and are prepared to give, no matter how grand or humble their circumstances are.”

BYHP later tweeted: ‘Thank you to @SibfordSchool who braved the cold & slept out in aid of BYHP.’
