New Miss Oxfordshire crowned

Beauty, intelligence and a knack for public speaking are the secrets of success for the new Miss Oxfordshire, who wants to use her position to support local communities across the county.

Layla Claridge, 23, completed against 13 others for the much-sought after title earlier this month in a competition involving dressmaking, dancing, and a formal interview stage.

Miss Claridge works at Abindon’s John Mason School in its exams office. She studied rhetorics at Royal Holloway, University of London. She said: “It was something I always wanted to do when I was little, I have always been very girl and I like dressing up and speaking on stage. I was a way I could get a lot more involved in the community- something I have been trying to do for quite some time.

“Having the crown put on my head was one of my proudest moments.

“I want to encourage woman and help people to recognise the value of intelligence and good people and social skills.”

Miss Claridge will be competing for the coveted Miss England prize in August.
