Publicans at a village pub have a new drink on offer for customers – their own brand of coffee.

Husband and wife Michael and Jill Ward, their daughter Tazelle and her husband Johan Smal have been running the 17th century Brasenose Arms, in Cropredy, for a year.

The team are now serving their new coffee to customers, as well as selling it for home use in branded bags.

Johan and Tazelle produce the coffee, which they’ve named Brazen Bean, fresh on the premises, using three roasters specially built by Johan. Tazelle and Johan, who is originally from Namibia, have previous experience roasting coffee beans for a hotel in South Africa.

Johan said: “It’s more complicated than people think. The roasted beans must rest for four or five days before we serve or sell it.

“It’s our own little personal touch to the pub, and one which is going down very well with customers.”
