A mysterious mural that puzzled shoppers when it appeared in Banbury town centre in March has now been revealed to have been commissioned to promote ‘Atic’- a new bar opening later this month.

The artwork is based on Banksy’s original artwork ‘French Maid’ which appeared near Chalk Farm tube station, London and was mostly destroyed in 2008.

Now bar owner Ryan Mold said work on the new venue is now complete and a grand opening event is due to take place on the bank holiday weekend from May 21 to 24.

He said: “It is a cool little rock and roll which will give people a bit of an alternative. We are aimed more at grown up people who have few alternatives to stop for a drink past midnight.”

Atic will have capacity for up to 200 people and will be open Thursday through to Saturday until 3am.
