More clues to Hanwell’s Tudor history were revealed at the weekend when two residents discovered carved stones while clearing out the village well, which runs through a trough in the village centre and out into Hanwell brook.

Peter Gordon and Giles Dessain were freeing up the water flow when they noticed the carvings – depicting Tudor roses familiar to carvings recently discovered with a large, stone Tudor coat of arms during renovation of a period cottage nearby.
