The three-day funfair will be officially opened by Cherwell District Council chairman Cllr Maurice Billington and mayor Shaida Hussain at 4pm next Wednesday, October 17.

As they walk through the fair with the Golden Key, children will be able to enjoy free rides on the attractions they ‘unlock’ when they touch them with the key.

During the rest of the event, fairgoers will be able to take advantage of cut price rides by looking out for discount vouchers in the Banbury Guardian today (Thursday).

Organisers Bob Wilson’s Fun Fairs are promising two major new attractions for this year.

Mission Space will be a bigger and better version of the Sky Fly ride, which has appeared for the past few years on the Market Place.

Towering 40 metres (130 feet) high, it will be a full 10 metres taller than its predecessor, twirling passengers high over the rooftops and other rides and attractions below.

The ride also features a dazzling colour-changing LED package that will create a fantastic light show now that the nights are drawing in.

Also new this for 2018 is the giant Monkey World Fun House, promising four floors of laughs.

Kids will have fun navigating the passageways as they traverse moving floors and stairs, a rotating barrel, spinning discs, rope bridges and other disorientating but safe obstacles. On the top floor they will even encounter a gorilla figure!

After all that climbing and exploring, the fun ends with a spiral slide back down to the bottom.

Back again this year is The King, the only looping thrill ride of its king in the UK, plus Storm, a giant 42m-tall spinning ‘propeller’ that offers an adrenaline ride like no other.

But no visit to the fair would be complete without riding the Galloping Horses, so the Carousel will be in its usual spot at Banbury Cross to keep the families happy.

Other confirmed rides and attractions for 2018 include the Waltzer, Dodgems, Miami Trip, Crazy Bulls, Super Bob, Extreme, Body Count, Rotor, Ghost Train, Fun House and Mirror Maze.

There will also be a large selection of attractions just for the little ones, as well as traditional fairground games and food.
