Legendary Banbury hospital campaigner and former leader of the Labour group on Cherwell District Council, George Parish, has been recognised for his work for the Labour Party.
Current Labour councillors Cllr Mark Cherry and Cllr Sean Woodcock visited Mr Parish at his Banbury home to hand over a Merit Award signed by the Labour leader Ed Miliband.
The lifetime achievement award is a mark of recognition for his work not only for the local Labour Party but his commitment to his local community.
It also marks tireless work to save and protect Horton General Hospital services through his chairmanship of Keep the Horton General campaign.
Mr Cherry said: “We really miss George on the council . We wish him and his family well.”
