A 23-year-old man suffered minor injuries thought to be caused by a knife following an altercation in Banbury last night (Tuesday).

Police were called to Withycombe Drive at about 11.45pm after the victim was in a van parked on the drive of a property on the road. He was approached by two men and following an altercation the 23-year-old man was assaulted.

He did not require hospital treatment and one offender fled the scene on foot and the other left in a blue vehicle.

Police officers remain at the scene today (Wednesday) and have reassured residents living on the road that they believe it is not a random attack.

Det Insp Mike Roddy from Abingdon Force CID said: “We are in the early stages of this investigation and officers are in the area today conducting enquiries to establish exactly what took place.

“Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured but this was an understandably frightening incident for him. At this stage we believe that this was a targeted attack.

“Officers are in the area today and I would urge anyone who has any information about the incident to speak to them.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
