Man assaulted in Banbury while walking dog

At about 11.50pm last Friday the victim was walking his dog in East Street when a man approached him and assaulted him.

During the assault the offender referred the victim by the wrong name.

The victim was punched in the face and kicked, causing him to fall to the floor. The offender also smashed the victim’s phone on the ground.

The offender made off on foot towards Middleton Road.

The victim sustained cuts to his face and lip, grazes to his elbow and cuts to his knee, but he did not require hospital treatment.

The offender is white, of a muscly build, around 5ft 8ins- 5ft10ins, and in his thirties. He was wearing a black T-shirt and dark jeans, and put on a grey hooded top before leaving the scene.

PC Reece Millar of Banbury Police Station said: “It is believed this is a case of mistaken identity, we are keen for anyone who may have information regarding this to please come forward.

“One other man and a woman were thought to have been near the offender at the time of the incident, we would like to speak to them as they may have useful information to help us with this investigation.”
