Man arrested for arson after several people were injured in a fire at flats in Chipping Norton

A 37-year-old man from Chipping Norton has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Just after midnight in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday September 9), police said there were reports of an argument outside Bliss House on Hailey Avenue, Chipping Norton.

Two hours later, at around 2am, a fire was started at the front door to the flats which caused damage to the property.

Several people suffered from smoke inhalation and leg injuries and required hospital treatment. They have all since been discharged.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Samantha Bonner, based at Banbury police station, said: “I am appealing to anyone who has any information about this incident to get in touch.

“I am appealing particularly to anyone who has CCTV in the area to check their footage and come forward if you could help with my investigation.

The 37-year-old who was arrested remains in police custody.
