M40 CRASH UPDATE: Police appeal for help after fatal M40 crash near Banbury

Warwickshire Police are appealing for witnesses following Friday’s crash on the M40 near Banbury in which a 25-year-old man died.

It happened at about 11.15am on the northbound carriageway between junctions 11 and 12, involving a van and a lorry.

The 25-year-old man from Leicester, who was driving the van, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in the van, sustained ‘life-changing’ injuries and was taken to the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

The driver of the large goods vehicle, a 43-year-old man was uninjured.

The incident resulted in severe delays in Banbury for most of the day on Friday, with police closing the entrance to the M40 via junction 11 and creating a diversion up to junction 12 at Gaydon.

Police are eager to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or the circumstances leading up to it.
