Children from Odyssey Juniors in Banbury will bring to life the characters of Charlie Brown and Snoopy with a musical production of the popular comic strip.

The group is made up of children aged between seven and 13 and will perform three shows of Snoopy! The Musical at Banbury Academy’s Wykham Theatre on Friday and Saturday. The show is in popular demand and the matinee performance for Saturday has already sold out.

Director Andy Aldcroft said there were still tickets available for the evening performances at 7.30pm and urged people to come along and see a musical that is not performed very often.

He said: “It is designed to be a show performed by adults and as a result it is a full musical rather than one designed for children. We thought we would challenge them by getting them a bit more involved and the show is also a bit longer too.

“It’s got a lot of different stuff so it is full of numbers, great music and fun, not taking itself too seriously. It is a great chance to give the children their own characters to work on and develop.”

Playing Snoopy will be William Healey with Misty Griffin cast as Woodstock.

Billy Lambert will play Charlie Brown, the pessimist who can’t always seem to do things right. Playing Linus is Zephan Lacey-Rousou with Zara Walton playing Lucy, Isabelle Lester as Sally and Thalia Shadbolt as Peppermint Patty.

Mr Aldcroft said he has been impressed with the children ahead of their production at the weekend.

He added: “The group saw the set for the first time earlier this week and they are really excited. They have done remarkably well, we’ve done two months of rehearsals and one every week so they have worked really hard.”

Tickets cost £9/£6 and are available by calling 01295 267342 or visiting www.odysseytheatre.co.uk
