The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is asking people to take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch survey this weekend. Bird populations are a great indicator of the health of the countryside and all you need to do is spend an hour counting the birds in your garden.
Dave Fuller of Banbury took the photo above of a common kingfisher in Farnborough earlier this month. “I finally got lucky! I’ve been after this bird, or one like it for a few years now,” he said. However it is not included in the list which people are asked to look out for which are: Blackbird, House Sparrow, Bullfinch and Collared Dove. See www.rspb.org.uk for full information on how to take part.
