A 23-year-old man from Banbury has been jailed for four years after pleading guilty to sexual activity with a child.

Michael Rowen of Hart Close admitted the offences at Oxford Crown Court on November 3, which included 19 counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of engaging a child to engage in pornography and one count of possessing indecent images.

Rowen was sentenced back at the same court yesterday (Wednesday), where he was also given a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for ten years and placed on the Sex Offender Register for life.

The offences relate to three teenage girls and were committed between April 2009 and Februrary 2010.

Investigating officer, detective constable Rebecca McLeod from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit in Banbury, said: “The victims in this case have shown considerable bravery in coming forward.

“The victims have described their teenage years as having been ‘lost’ as a result of what Michael Rowan did to them.

“Michael Rowan manipulated these young girls for his own sexual gratification. I hope that this sentence will provide each of them with some closure and enable them to move forward with their lives.”
