The noise was caused by RAF Typhoons travelling at supersonic speeds south from RAF Coningsby, offering assistance to a civilian aircraft.

So far we have had reports from people from across Leicestershire and Oxfordshire who heard the noise, so it is expected that many others in other parts of the Midlands also felt it.
Leicestershire Police said they have received many calls about the explosion, adding: “We like to reassure you that there is no concern however thank you for your immediate response to us.”
We will bring you more on this as it happens.
