They joined thousands of other people in Banbury and across the country who were doing various sporting fundraisers to raise funds for projects both in this country and across the world.

And patients at the treatment centre on the Oxford Road could see for themselves the 30 members of staff who were taking on the challenge from Tuesday to Friday. They attempted to cycle 319 miles between Banbury and all the other Ramsay Health Centres in the region.

Harriet Canavan, sales and marketing manager at the Horton Treatment Centre, said: “It was perfect and we reached our target a day ahead of schedule but we still kept cycling on Friday and staff were still adding to the total which was great.

“This is the first time we have done something like this and will definitely looking to do it again. I’ve already been talking with other healthcare hospitals so next year we could try and do something regional too.”

Sport Relief is a biennial charity event from Comic Relief in association with BBC Sport and saw celebrities and sportspeople get involved to support projects at home and abroad.

The 2016 fundraising total stands at a staggering £56.8 million and included comedian Eddie Izzard running 27 marathons in 27 days, Jo Brand walking from one side of the country to the other and Radio 1 DJ Greg James completing five triathlons in five days.

And Mrs Canavan added it was great to see all the staff get involved to raise as much money as possible.

She said: “Being an orthopaedic hospital we promote exercise and healthy living so it is nice to be demonstrating that. A lot of patients could see staff from every department taking part, even those people working in department that are away from the patients and getting involved.”
