Hospice to host first open day

Now in its 25th year, the hospice outside Adderbury will let members of the public take tours of the facilities and learn more about the important work they do.

Caring for up to 250 patients, the hospice provides specialist palliative care and complementary therapies such as music and art therapy. It also offers families a bereavement service.

The open day will consist of a tour of the facilities and several one-hour talks about the hospice and its services. There will also be the opportunity to learn how to become a volunteer or fundrasier. Most importantly the event will try to dispel the myths surrounding hospices and the facilities and care they provide.

Bernadette Ross, director of nursing at the hospice, said: “Often people think that hospices are dark and scary places, but we hope by opening our doors we can not only raise awareness of our services in the local community, but also show people the warm, relaxed and caring atmosphere we have here at Katharine House Hospice.”

Talks will take place at 3pm, 4pm, and 5pm, followed by a tour of the hospice and grounds whilst enjoying drinks and cakes. Entry is free and there is no need to book. For further information visit www.khh.org.uk, or phone 01295 811 866.
