Firemen from the Hook Norton Fire Service helped avoid major flooding of a pub and neighbouring cottage in Hook Norton at the weekend.

Persistent rain over several days ended up in a torrent of water rushing down Brewery Lane in the Scotland End area of the village and past the frontages of the Pear Tree Inn and the cottage next door.

On Sunday at 1pm the village fire service was called when the buildings were in imminent danger of being inundated. The firefighters spent three hours placing sandbags to protect the buildings and helping to dig a trench between the properties to divert floodwater away from the doors.
