Bloxham School’s rugby team agonizingly bowed out of the NatWest Vase one step from a Twickenham final despite drawing their semi-final clash on Saturday.
In a tense game at Allianz Park, the home of Premiership side Saracens, they drew with Northampton School for Boys 20-20 but it was Northampton who went through because they had scored the first try of the game.
But Bloxham showed great heart to come from behind twice and from 12-3 down at half time they scored two tries to put them 15-12 in front.
But Northampton School for Boys, whose pack did well throughout with driving mauls from the lineout, scored a try and penalty to take a 20-15 lead.
Bloxham fought back to score a superb try out wide in the dying seconds, only for the difficult conversion to go a few inches wide of the post. The final whistle blew to break Bloxham boys’ hearts.
