Have your say on superfast broadband around Banbury

This consultation focuses on the final five per cent and is designed to help the council prioritise where the demand for broadband is greatest.

Some areas that do not have superfast broadband include parts of Bloxham, Bodicote and Adderbury.

An OCC spokeswoman said: “We’ve launched this public consultation to help plan the next part of the Better Broadband for Oxfordshire roll-out.

“Better Broadband for Oxfordshire is a major engineering programme and is progressing well. We’ve already got plans in hand to reach 95 per cent of the county’s households and businesses with our private sector partner BT, as part of the government’s Broadband Delivery UK programme.

“We are committed to reaching as many of the properties in the final five per cent as possible with the funding that is currently available.”

The council also wants to hear from network providers about any roll-out plans they may have to avoid overlap as under funding rules OCC is not allowed to invest funds where fibre broadband is already available or planned.

More than 21,400 homes and businesses in the Banbury area already have access to fibre broadband as a result of the Better Broadband for Oxfordshire programme or BT’s commercial roll-out.

She added: “It is too early to say precisely how many properties in the Banbury area may be included in – or excluded from – this next phase. We will have more information about this after this consultation.”
