Stratford-upon-Avon’s Riding for the Disabled (RDA) group celebrates the installation of a new hydraulic lift next week. The lift will enable riders to mount horses more easily.
The equipment was officially handed over on Tuesday by Paralympic equestrian dressage rider Ricky Balshaw who started riding with RDA.
The lift, costing £15,000 to install, was funded by a variety of sources including a donation raised by the supporters of a garden concert given by the A440 Chamber Orchestra last year in Adderbury.
“This lift is a significant investment,” said Donna Jenkins, RDA group organiser.
“The ponies have taken to it with ease and it has already proved a positive experience for our riders, especially those with reduced mobility, as it is big enough to take a wheelchair. We have a lot of people to thank and we are indebted to the owners of Home Farm and Dan Wain Equestrian, who operate the stable facility, for allowing us to install it alongside the arena.”
