The village of Chacombe was once again transformed into a race track as karts of all shapes and sizes took part in this year’s soapbox derby.
The Easter Monday event saw villagers gather to watch karts race down Thorpe Road.
Doug Peel-Yates crossed the line in the fastest time in the senior section, while the best dressed soapbox prize went to Darren Williams, who created a kart to look like a bed frame inspired by the EL James book Fifty Shades of Grey.
Mike Wilkes won the Best Original prize for his recreation of the Creepy Coupe – known to many as one of the racers in the children’s cartoon Wacky Races.
Will Baker, meanwhile, scooped the cup and fastest time in the junior section with his kart called the Baker Boys.
After the event the racers gathered at the George and Dragon pub for a barbecue before receiving their prizes from Aston Martin driver and Chacombe resident Darren Turner. And the karters might have passed on some racing tips to Mr Turner as he went on to secure a fifth place finish in the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone on Saturday!
