Christmas is coming early for Cherwell residents as council-owned and operated car parks are set to provide free festive parking.
From November 28 until January 10 inclusive Cherwell District council’s owned and operated car parks will offer free parking every day from 3pm so that Christmas shoppers can take advantage of what’s on offer in Banbury and Bicester.
Councillor George Reynolds, Cherwell’s deputy leader said: “We have in the past offered free car parking schemes over the Christmas and New Year period both as a convenience for festive shoppers and as a boost to the town traders.
“We’re pleased to announce now that the scheme will return for 2015. And this year we’re starting the scheme from an earlier date so that in Banbury it will be in operation before the Christmas lights turn-on event.”
Participating Cherwell District Council car parks will be clearly signed. Council operated parking not included in the free offer will be clearly marked at the payment machines.
Cherwell-operated car parks in Banbury are in North Bar, Horsefair, South Bar, Calthorpe Street, Spiceball Park Road, Chamberlaine Court, Market Place, Compton Road, The Mill, Bridge Street and Windsor Street.
Car parks operated by the council in Bicester are in Chapel Brook, Claremont, Cattle Market, Market Place and Victoria Road.
All other regulations remain in force and between 8am and 3pm usual parking charges apply.
