Noggin the Nog, The Mill, Banbury, April 6

A classic children’s show, created by Olive Postgate and Peter Firmin, is coming to life at the Mill. Noggin the Nog features puppetry, live music and projection of clips from the original films. The Saga of Noggin the Nog was first produced by Smallfilms for the BBC in 1959, originally in black and white, although later re-filmed in colour in 1982. With simple techniques and delightful story telling - children’s entertainment once moved at a less frenetic pace! - this is a piece of theatre to sit and watch together with your children and grandchildren.

Peter Fleming was posted to India and the Far East during the war “as far away as the moon” working for Military Intelligence. The letters read by their daughter, Lucy Fleming (Miranda in The Archers, Survivors) and her husband Simon Williams (Justin in The Archers, EastEnders, Upstairs Downstairs) provide an insight into a young mother’s life whose husband has gone to war. 4 BALLET

Swan Lake, The Mill, Banbury, April 7

One of the best-known love stories is performed by the ever- popular Vienna Festival Ballet, promising lavish costumes, stunning scenery, international performers and glorious music from Tchaikovsky.

5 THEATRE

Curtains, Wykham Theatre, Banbury Academy, April 12 to 14

Banbury-based Odyssey Theatrical Productions presents this Tony-nominated musical. From the writers of Chicago and Cabaret, the comedy follows an Off-Broadway company as they try to solve the murder of their (less than spectacular) leading lady on opening night. The cast and crew of Robbin’ Hood are all under suspicion as Boston police detective and amateur thespian, Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, races against time to unravel the mystery and save the show. It features some of Kander and Ebb’s catchiest classics including Show People and Thataway!

“This is one of my all-time favourite musicals and I am delighted to introduce it to a Banbury audience,” says director Andy Aldcroft.
