Banbury Operatic Society steps into the high-camp world of this feel-good musical next week. Based on the 1994 popular movie of the same name, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert follows the journey of two drag queens, Tick and Adam, and a transgender woman, Bernadette, as they travel across Australia in their bus, named Priscilla. It includes well-known songs such as It’s Raining Men, I Will Survive, Boogie Wonderland and Hot Stuff, as well as deeper themes that are likely to resonate with many of the struggles individuals face today.

A Kick in the Baubles, Southfield Primary Academy, Brackley, October 24 to 26

Brackley Players present this Christmas story with a twist. The cast, who have been rehearsing since August, will be presenting audiences with a typical family at Christmas, with Frank Bailey, played by Peter Milne, bringing the ‘bah humbug’. With his snooty sister-in-law Doreen - played by Fran Hollyoake - and flash brother-in-law Harry - played by Roy Frost - coming to stay, Frank’s Christmas is not what he was hoping for. Then there’s a couple of unruly neighbours, played by Scott and Lisa Saffrey, and a bit of a family drama. Lynn Cowley, who is directing the play, said: “I’m really pleased with how the rehearsals are going. Everyone is working so hard to bring together this funny and occasionally naughty play. It’s been tricky getting the actors to concentrate at rehearsals, as some of the parts are so funny, they just start laughing!

“ It’s a real heart-warmer, and a story which I’m sure many families will be able to relate to.”

A regular panellist on Mock the Week the comedienne will present her one woman show, Entry Level Human, from 8pm.

She returns with a fresh crop of ‘quick-fire observational gags, delivered with utter conviction, not to mention ‘proper laugh-out-loud one-liners.

Battle of Edgehill re-enactment, Kineton Sports & Social Club, October 19 to 21

Some 250 to 300 Sealed Knot members will take part in the event between Parliamentarians and Royalists and give the public an idea about how the battle was fought, what armour and weapons were used and the context of the battle in relation to the Civil War as a whole. The re-enactments take place between midday and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. There will be living history displays and talks, demonstrations, an opportunity to meet the regiments and see pre-battle cavalry and cannon displays before the main battle.

TULU presents a night of UK hip hop, Also Known As, Parson’s Street, Banbury, October 19
