Firemen deal with burning cake mix during Bicester factory fire

Fire officers were forced to empty more than a tonne of burning cake mix from an industrial mixer during a factory fire in Bicester on Friday, July 10.

Crews from Bicester, Kidlington and Rewley Road fire stations were called to the site of British Bakels Ltd on Granville way at 6.45pm where they faced a rapidly growing blaze affecting a large cake mixing machine.

The factory site manager had already evacuated the building and passed on information about the complex machinery involved.

Fire crews then quickly attacked the fire using hose reel jets and at one point were forced to empty burning cake mix from the machine.

At the height of the fire four fire engines were in attendance .

Station manager Julian Green, said:“The initial speed and weight of attack from the attending crews kept the fire contained to the cake machine and extinguished it quickly, preventing a major fire involving the whole factory.

“There were no injuries to staff or fire-fighters and I would like to praise the quick actions of crews and assistance provided by site staff in dealing with this fire.”
