A part-time firefighter who is taking on the gruelling Marathon des Sables in the Sahara desert has completed the first stages of the competition.
Fran King, of Hook Norton, started the six-day race on April 4. On the first day Miss King completed a 36km race in eight hours and 20 minutes, while on the second day she completed 32km in seven hours and three minutes. The race leader completed the first two stages in just under five-and-a-half hours.
Also competing is 71-year-old Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who is only an hour behind Miss King. To sponsor Miss King, visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/FranKing
