Finnley's idea inspires Sibford School to dress up for Sport Relief

Pupils will be paying to come school dressed as their sporting idol or in sports clothes with funds going to Sports Relief thanks to an idea from Year Three pupil Finnley Pankhurst.

But they will also be collecting unwanted sports kit which will be sent to under privileged children in Sierra Leone.

Finley said: “When we were in Barcelona I was treated to a new Messi shirt. I already had one which was bought in the UK and so I thought it be lovely to send it to a child in Africa.

“FC Barcelona is known all over the world and the children in Africa would do anything to get hold of a Messi shirt. It would be something they would really cherish.

“So I asked Edward Rossiter, the deputy head in change in the Junior School, if we could collect football shirts and he thought it was such a good idea that now the whole school is going to take part and, as well as shirts, we are going to collect a whole lot of sports kit which can be sent over to help schools in Sierra Leone.”

Transport to Sierra Leone is being organised by Banbury-based charity, Westminster Group Foundation, which works with local partners and other established charities to provide goods or services for the relief of poverty or advancement of education or healthcare in the developing world.
