A first encounter with Shakespeare is being staged for pupils at Shipston High School when the Royal Shakespeare Company returns on Tuesday, June 2.
The company will arrive with their new First Encounters with Shakespeare production, The Famous Victories of Henry V, which has been created for pupils aged 8 and over and is being performed at 7pm.
The school is hosting a dress rehearsal on the Monday before as a special performance for pupils from local primary schools.
The Famous Victories of Henry V brings together all the exciting moments from three great plays – Henry IV, Parts 1 & 2 and Henry V – and invites the audience to be part of the thrilling ride.
Featuring Shakespeare’s original language, this new production, with a total running time of 1 hour 30 minutes, is the perfect first encounter with Shakespeare’s work for young people aged 8 – 13 years but will equally appeal to all ages, whether new to Shakespeare or already familiar with his work.
Performed by RSC actors, with some props especially commissioned from the school, this production is part of a tour of the UK. This will be the only opportunity for audiences to see the play in this area before the production transfers to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford.
Tickets for the show are available to the public and may be reserved by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org but will need to be paid for and collected at least 12 hours before the performance. Owing to the style of the production, the number of tickets available is quite limited so early application is advised.
