The store in Castle Quay Shopping Centre will take part in the national event tomorrow (Thursday) from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, where children and adults can take part in various activities and pass on the magic to those who haven’t yet discovered what life at Hogwarts is really like.

Charlotte Bennett, senior bookseller at Waterstones, said: “I used to work in the Oxford store and we did it for the first time last year and I thought it was absolutely amazing. We are hoping to be part of it in Banbury for the future so it is going to be fantastic.”

Staff at Waterstones will be busy using their magic wands to transform their shop over the weekend into the world of Harry Potter, with the children’s section to resemble Platform 9 3/4 and Hogwarts.

There will be a Sorting Hat for children to see if they will be placed into the houses of either Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff and adults will be tested on their knowledge of the books with quizzes based on Hogwart’s OWL exams.

There will also be a fancy dress competition for those wanting to come dressed for the occasion.

The first Harry Potter Book Night was held in February last year, with 10,500 parties and celebrations held all over the world.
