Flood warnings given for Banburyshire - details here and will be updated

The Environment Agency has given immediate flood warnings for areas of Banburyshire as rainfall increases today (Wednesday).

Flooding is expected with immediate action required in the Sor Brook and Bloxham Brooks as a result of heavy rainfall. The latest report for the Sor and Bloxham Brooks says flooding of property is imminent, especially in the areas closest to the river in Adderbury.

Flooding of roads, paths and farmland remains possible this evening. Further persistent and heavy rainfall is expected this evening before clearing by tomorrow morning (Christmas Eve).

While rivers have currently stabilised, the EA expects levels to rise again in response to forecast rainfall. The agency is monitoring the situation.

"Our incident response staff are in the area clearing weed/trash screens. Please remain safe and aware of your local surroundings and refer to the 'River and Sea levels in England' webpage for current river level," a spokesman said.

Water levels have risen on the River Cherwell as a result of heavy rainfall. Flooding of roads, paths and farmland is expected to continue tonight especially in areas around Banbury and upstream to Woodford Halse.

Further persistent and heavy rainfall is expected this evening (Wednesday) before clearing by tomorrow morning. River levels are expected to continue to rise overnight and into tomorrow, particularly in the Banbury area. Levels in the Woodford Halse area are expected to stabilise and start dropping overnight.

"We expect river levels to start to drop before 11pm on Wednesday," said a spokesman. "Please avoid contact with flood water and refer to the 'River and Sea levels in England' webpage for current river levels. This message will be updated tomorrow (Christmas Eve) or as the situation changes".
