Extinction Rebellion Banbury launches Clean Air Day poster making contest for area children

Banbury Extinction Rebellion members are encouraging people not to use their car on Thursday October national Clean Air Day. They're encouraging people to walk children to school and walk or cycle to shops.

The group has also launched a Clean Air Day poster competition for Banbury area children.

The poster competition is open to children aged 5-11. The three winners will each receive publicity for their artistic talents and a £20 book token. The closing date for the competition is Friday October 2.

Children can paint or draw their poster or make a collage. Children can find ideas for posters, and lots of information about air pollution at the following website: https://www.cleanairday.org.uk/free-resources/schools

Children who would like to enter then need to ask an adult to take a photo of the poster and email it to: [email protected] Each entry must include the child's name, age, school, and a contact email address. By entering each contestant is giving permission for the poster to be used in the Banbury Guardian and on social media.

The competition will be judged by Banbury author Tim Smedley, who is the author of the book, Clearing the Air.

The closing date for the competition is Oct 2 at 5pm, the shortlist will be announced on Oct 5, and the winner will be announced on Clean Air Day, Oct 8.

Cllr Hannah Banfield said: "I think your competition will push this very important health message into the hearts and minds of local children and hopefully their parents.

"Some streets in Banbury that are located next to schools can end up having some of the worst air pollution readings locally. Let’s all work together to fix that."
