Banbury members of Extinction Rebellion are heading to London today to join the national protest in Parliament Square,

The aim of the protest, titled ‘We Want to Live’, is to persuade the government to take action on the climate emergency.

Campaigners said the protest will be non-violent and socially distanced - and the occupation of Parliament Square is to avoid closing roads or disrupting the lives of London’s citizens.

Banbury residents going to London include teacher Liz Vere, who said: "Covid-19 has shown us that Governments can take decisive action to safeguard life when needed.

"We need to remind them that global warming is an even greater threat and they need to act now.

And Holly Thompson, XR Youth, said: "The climate crisis still needs the media and government’s attention; it is still a mass global issue, and will not only affect the young, but all of humanity. Action must be taken."
